Angola: Total Restarts Drilling in Block 32

Total has restarted drilling in Angola’s Block 32 with the Skyros rig already in place with more drilling expected by the end of August using the Maersk Voyager according to country manager Olivier Jouny on Africa Oil & Power publication.

The French giant which is Angola’s largest operator by production had four drilling rigs operating at the start of 2020  accounting for about 50%  of the country’s crude oil production.

Ultra-deep offshore Block 32 (30%) is located in water depths ranging from 1,400 to 1,900 meters. It includes the Kaombo development hub, which covers six fields: Gindungo, Gengibre, Louro, Mostarda, Canela and Caril.

Block 17 is Total’s primary asset in Angola and comprises four major hubs: Girassol, Dalia, Pazflor and CLOV. Total also holds working interests in Blocks 14 (20%), 14K (36.75%) and 0 (10%). On the exploration side, Total operates: Block 17/06 (30%) in the Lower Congo Basin,  Block 16 (65%) adjacent to Block 17 which includes the Chissonga offshore field and Block 48 (50%).
